While fats are considered an essential body nutrient, you should be careful about what types you eat. As the term implies, “saturated fats” possess a lot of hydrogen atoms and do not possess double bonds among and between its carbon atoms. Because of their chemical makeup, these fats are not easily broken down, instead they solidify in low temperature or cold conditions. One of the most common sources of saturated fats is lard which can greatly demonstrate this property.
Foods That Contain Zero Or Very Low Saturated Fats
- Always check food labels. Look at the amounts of contained. If possible, the amount should be minimal or even non-existent.
- Use only unsaturated fats when cooking. Some of the most common examples include plant-based oils such as canola or olive oil.
- Choose lean meat. High quantities in dairy products, beef, lamb, and pork.
- Omega-3 fatty acids are better forms of fats. You can get them from deep sea fish or walnuts.
- Swap butter with margarine.
- Steer clear of deep-fried foods. Most of these foods have been cooked in saturated oils.
